The global demand for energy is expected to continue to grow in accelerated pace. To make this demand growth possible to attend, it´s essential to promote the efficient use of natural resources. Another trend is the change in consumption habits driven by the digital transformation. For that reason, it will be increasingly more common to invest in innovations that promote the efficiency and sustainability of the electric energy sector.
ENERGY MARKET
The technology acceleration applied on the development and infrastructure demands more and more energy. In all sectors of the economy there is a growing demand for energy, and therefore the need to create alternative energy sources. In the coming years, it will be possible to notice increased investments in the distributed generation of renewable energy sources, which will consist of expansion of the supply of energy generated from renewable sources, both in transmission and distribution. By encouraging the diversification of the energy mix, the energy becomes more competitive and accessible.
Currently, the renewable energy composes almost 50% of the Brazilian energy mix. For the most part produced in hydroelectric plants, but the generation of wind and solar energy have gained prominence in the last years.
The energy which is generated always requires a generating factor, this can be solar energy, falling water, heating gases or another. Renewable energies are those where the generating factor is constantly recomposed by nature, but even sources considered renewable, such as hydroelectrical, have a direct impact on the environment.
ENERGY MANAGEMENT AT Zilia
With a large part of the greenhouse gases emissions attributed to the purchase of electricity, Zilia focuses on energy management as one of their climate strategies. The company operates with measurements to gauge, reduce and report climate impact and proactively invests in projects that support conservation and renewable energy. For more than a decade, innumerous energy conservation initiatives have been implemented in its facilities, amongst them, the use of more efficient equipment and intelligent temperature controllers.
Also several other initiatives have been implanted in the last five years, from campaigns that go beyond the company’s limits, to the update of its industrial park using LED illumination, improving the comfort of the employees and also bringing improvement in the gas emission indicators that cause the greenhouse effect.
RENEWABLE ENERGY AT ATIBAIA/SP
In 2016, the energy demand at Zilia in Atibaia/SP, started to be supplied by renewable energy, which use a combination of biomass, solar and wind energy. With this change, there has been an exceptional contribution to the management of CO2 emissions since 2017.
“We depend on the energy for our operations and development. This topic is directly related to the environment, therefore, it is very important to seek greater efficiency in the use of this resource. It is gratifying to know that at Zilia this relationship is taken seriously, both in small attitudes that transform our culture on a daily basis, but also in high investments, always seeking greater energy efficiency” – points out Juliano Selvenca, Operations and Maintenance Manager of Utilities and Infrastructure.
